K-Pop In My Pocket

In K-Pop when an artist releases new music, they are said to have a “comeback”. I have been absent here for a minute or 4 years (but who is counting), that makes this post my “comeback “. I am a fan of a handful of K-Pop artists and groups that I stumbled upon in my adventures in escapism.

About 3 years ago, I was binge watching Japanese Anime, and Netflix suggested I watch a show that turned out to be a Japanese drama. It then suggested another show, and I was half way through the drama when it dawned on me that the actors were not speaking Japanese. A bit of research on “Strong Girl Bong Soon” enlightened me to the fact that I had been watching my very first Korean drama.

I found the K-Drama so enjoyable that I searched other works, the lead actors had done. I discovered that Hyungsik (Park Hyung Sik), the lead male actor, was in the group Z:EA. He also stared in the 2016 historical drama called “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth” which was my first taste of this genre and I was hooked. That very same drama also stared V (Kim Tae Hyung) from the world famous group BTS, in addition to Minho (Choi Min Ho) from the group Shinee. Through those groups my love for K-pop was born.

I can now add K-Pop as a music genre that people would not guess I enjoy. The way I figure it, it is a good balance for my taste in Metal or Stoner Rock, right? My musical taste is so eclectic that there are a few genres people would be surprised to know I listen to avidly. Do you have a genre of music that people would not guess you like? How do you feel about it? Does it make you embarrassed, indifferent or maybe a little proud? Thank you for stopping in and checking out my little ditty here! You are important to me, and I appreciate your time.
